Calling

Psalm 78:70-72
“He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance.  And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”

Mark 1:16-18
“As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’  At once they left their nets and followed him.”

1 Corinthians 7:19b-20
“Keeping God’s commands is what counts.  Each of you should remain in the situation you were in when God called you.”

Worthy Master, you have designed us to be uniquely effective, and our gifts are yours to request.

callingYou teach us diligence in humble work so that you might transform it into holy service.  By consistently offering our natural skills we invite you to use us for spiritual purposes.

Train us to be community builders, champions of integrity and your faithful followers.  Until you call us for greater tasks, may we honour you with holy joy in the situation you have chosen for us.

Through Christ our Lord we ask this; called to be an obedient servant and now seated on your glorious throne.
