Exodus 20:17
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
John 21:20a, 21-22
“Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them…When Peter saw him, he asked, ‘Lord, what about him?’ Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’”
Jeremiah 29:11
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Thank you, O Lord, for the gift of life to our bodies, the blessing of peace to our hearts and the miracle of redemption for our souls.
You see with clarity the circumstances we view with uncertainty. Even obscured by trouble, your plans for us are good.
Draw our jealous eyes away from the path you have chosen for our neighbour. Allow us to look upon your gentle face and replace our covetous longing with gratitude.
By Christ’s precious name we pray, unenvied in his life and death, and yet your perfect revelation.
