Rock

Deuteronomy 32:3-4
“I will proclaim the name of the Lord.  Oh, praise the greatness of our God!  He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.”

Isaiah 51:1
“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord:  Look to the Rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn…”

Luke 23:50-53
“Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action.  He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.  Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body.  Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.”

Lord God on high, like towering cliffs of granite you endure in strength for ever and ever.

rockYou are the Rock from which we are hewn.  At the very heart of our faith lies the place chiselled for Christ’s surrendered body.

May we be stones cut faithfully from your kingdom’s quarry.  Prepare us as willing hosts for your resurrection.

Hear the prayer we lift in Jesus’ name, the first to carve new life from the grave.
