Job 28:1-3, 10-12
“There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore. Man puts an end to the darkness; he searches the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness…He tunnels through the rock; his eyes see all its treasures. He searches the sources of the rivers and brings hidden things to light. But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell?”
Matthew 13:44
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
Isaiah 45:3
“I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”
Your love, O Lord, is a pure and priceless gemstone set in earth’s dark rubble.
We who endlessly search for gold fail to strike true treasure. Hidden in the narrow way lies the precious wisdom of your word.
Reveal the glint of glory to our dimmed sight. May we with joy part with all we have to belong to the kingdom we have discovered.
Thank you that we can ask this in Jesus’ name, who was buried in darkness for us so that we might find a beautiful treasure in him.
