1 Peter 1:3b-4a, 6
“In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade…In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.”
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
“The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first…And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.”
Righteous God, you have stored up a vast estate held in trust for us.
Our suffering results in humility and equality with the forgotten. Together we inherit salvation and grace from your generous hand.
Transform our sorrow into compassion. As we are heirs to your goodness, let us leave a legacy of mercy to our sisters and brothers.
In Christ’s name we pray, who suffered to grant even the least of your children the beauty of your inheritance.
