“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’”
“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Righteous God, like a river running deep and strong you are the wellspring of life.
Our parched souls long for sustenance, but we return to the cracked cisterns we have built by our own design. We abandon the eternal spring to draw from leaking wells.
Call us by the sound of trickling joy back to the source of living water. Quench our restless thirst with a drink from your pure stream.
We ask this is Jesus’ name, the water of life run dry in death who will one day end the flow of tears forever.
