Zephaniah 3:16b-17
“Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Matthew 14:29b-31a
“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”
Psalm 20:6
“Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.”
Lord God, you are salvation’s visionary, and your hand outstretched in love is our only hope.
We are powerless against the waters of despair and the winds of fear. Our hands are helpless to effect our own rescue.
Give us breath to cry out for your firm grasp upon our sinking spirits, and may we gladly obey your command not to be afraid. In your mercy, take delight in reaching for us.
Our plea is in the name of Christ, who allowed the waters of death to close over him so that we might be saved from the storm of sin.
