Heart

Psalm 51:10-11
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.”

Ezekiel 36:25-27a
“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you…”

Hebrews 10:19, 22-23
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Faithful and true God, you alone are the wellspring of purity that flows ceaselessly over a tainted creation.

heart (2)You have promised to take our sin-smudged hearts and by your Spirit transform our brittleness into tender beauty.

Soak through to the centre of our being so that we respond in love and joy to your gentle calling.  Bless others through our integrity.

In the name of Jesus we ask this, who took the impurities of our hearts upon his own and gave us his bright righteousness in return.
