Pearl

Genesis 12:1, 4a
“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.’…So Abram left, as the Lord had told him…”

Matthew 13:45-46
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.  When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”

Philippians 3:7-9
“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.  What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.  I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.”

Matchless God, how can we quantify the value of knowing you?

pearlYou provide us with identity, ultimate security, beauty and redemption, and the trinkets of this world cannot compare with the treasure of your kingdom.

Help us look beyond the world that dazzles us with the facade of fulfillment.  Give us a desire for the everlasting wealth found only in following you; the precious pearl of life in your promised land.

This we ask in the name of our incomparable Saviour Jesus, who joyfully bought us at the price of forsaking all the riches of heaven.
